We discuss the trends and issues we observed during the weeks of October 17-30 as we flipped resources into our Flipboard magazine (http://bit.ly/trendsandissues). We discuss four trends. The top trend we observed was upgraded computing tools. Apple and Microsoft announced upgrade to products. Security of the Internet of Things (IoT) was the second trend that we observed. There were several resources discussing breaches of security of devices that can be considered part of the IoT. The third trend was Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. The final trend was a focus on proof-based educational technology adoption. We observed resources focusing on how decisions for adopting and purchasing educational technology can be made based on data and research.

We have five recommended readings.

Episode 72 September 26-October 12 VR Content, Online Teaching & Learning, Faculty Relationships with Technology, and Reinventing Schools

We discuss the trends and issues we observed during the weeks of September 26-October 12 as we flipped resources into our Flipboard magazine (http://bit.ly/trendsandissues). We discuss four trends–two are major trends and two are emerging trends. The first is one that continues from last episode: Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. The focus was more on VR than on AR. We observed a number of resources focusing on virtual reality content along with announcements about VR viewing decks. The second trend was online teaching and learning. A number of different resources focusing on issues related to this are: effective teaching, the second digital divide in relationship to those who can and cannot use technology effectively, and the nature of online courses. The two emerging trends were faculty relationships with technology and reinventing schools.

We have four recommended readings.

Our next episode will air October 21.
