We discuss the trends and issues we observed during the weeks that include January 26-February 8, 2018 as we flipped resources into our Flipboard magazine (http://bit.ly/trendsandissues). We discuss four trends: hardware and software, digital citizenship, online teaching and learning, and cyber-security. With the hardware and software trend, augmented reality and virtual reality were part of this trend. Digital citizenship is a trend we believe will continue for the near future along with online teaching and learning. We continue to predict that OER will become a trend.

We often have resources shared with us that fit within the trends that we discuss in our podcast episodes. We like to share ones that we believe our listeners would find useful. If you work with K-12 students, the Digital Futures Initiative (www.DFiNow.org) is something you should check out. They have quite a few excellent resources focusing on digital citizenship. The non-profit’s president, Jason Breed (@JasonBreed) indicated to us that the Digiital Futures Initiative is “part of a worldwide, first-of-its-kind study that will be presented in Davos by the World Economic forum on Feb 5th that begins to measure the digital quotient (DQ) of children ages 8-12 across the world. ”
