Image of the number 100.Episode 100! We are excited to reach this milestone for our podcast. We began in December 2014–and we look forward to continuing on for years to come.  This episode is a compilation of interviews we conducted with individuals attending the annual conference of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology that was held in Jacksonville, Florida from November 6-11, 2017.

We asked four attendees to discuss the major trend or trends they believe are impacting instructional design, educational technology, and learning sciences. The trends discussed included computational thinking, learning analytics, personalized learning, STEM education, along with the Vulcan Science Academy.

We discuss the trends and issues we observed during the weeks that include July 14-25 as we flipped resources into our Flipboard magazine (http://bit.ly/trendsandissues). We discuss three trends: online teaching and learning, hardware and software, and AR & VR. Several resources focused on MOOCs, design and management of online teaching and learning, and instructional design of online. With hardware and software, there were a number of resources flipped that dealt with new updates for both hardware and software. Finally, there were fewer resources flipped on AR and VR than we have seen in the past. There were no specific patterns among these resources.

We discuss the trends and issues we observed during the weeks that include June 30-July 13 as we flipped resources into our Flipboard magazine (http://bit.ly/trendsandissues). We discuss four trends: analyses and studies, PD for IDT, online teaching and learning, and AR & VR. A number of resources focused on case studies, learner studies, and best practices in educational technology and instructional design. Another significant trend–a new one for our reporting–was professional development for those in instructional design and technology. Finally, the last two are hold-overs: online teaching and learning and AR/VR.

We also provided a shameless promotion. We have a book on OER that hit the shelves on July 10. The book is The Educator’s Guide to Producing New Media and Open Educational Resources
